The Dunlop Junior Championship was held Feb. 12-14 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island. This South Carolina Level 2 sanctioned event had 322 players including 28 local juniors.

Their results were:  

— Boy’s 10 Singles Red: No. 2 seed Logan Tomovski won his first match 5-3, 4-0 over a Camden player and then won 2-4, 5-3, (1-0) over the No. 4 seed from Camden to reach the finals where he lost 4-0, 4-2 to the No. 1 seed from Charlotte. The No. 3 seeded David Raynor won his first match 4-2, 4-1 over an Anderson player and then lost 4-2, 4-2 to the No. 1 seed from Charlotte. In the playoff, Raynor lost 5-4, 4-1 to the No. 4 seed from Camden. 

Jordan Mercado won 4-1, 4-0 over a Simpsonville player and then lost 4-0, 4-0 to the No. 1 seed from Charlotte. In the consolation, Mercado won 4-1, 3-5, (1-0) over a player from Morrisville, N.C., and then lost 4-0, 4-0 to a player from Anderson.    

— In the Boy’s 10 Singles Blue: No. 4 seed Gibson Goodroe lost his first match 4-0, 0-4, (1-0) to a player from Morrisville. In the consolation, Goodroe won 4-0, 4-0 over a Florence player to reach the finals where the tournament was stopped. Addison Gordon lost in the first round 5-4, 4-2 to a Florence player. In the consolation, Gordon won 4-2, 4-1 over a player from Hilton Head and then lost 4-2, 5-4 to a player from Gadsden, Ala. Nolan Cahill lost in the first round 4-2, 4-1 to a player from Hilton Head. In the consolation, Cahill lost 4-2, 4-2 to a Florence player.

— Boy’s 12 Singles Red: No. 2 seed Rivers Cahill won his first match 6-4, 6-1 over a player from Charlotte and then won 6-3, 6-1 over the No. 3 seed from Raleigh in the semifinals. In the finals, Cahill won 6-4, 6-4 over the No. 1 seed from Daniel Island to win the championship. Jeffrey Morrow won 6-3, 6-2 in the first round over a player from Daniel Island and then lost 6-3, 6-2 to the No. 3 seed from Raleigh. No. 4 seed Elliott Finger lost 6-1, 6-0 in the first round to a Simpsonville player. In the consolation, Finger won 6-0, 6-1 over a Wilmington players and then won over Jeffrey Morrow when he retired at 7-6, 4-0 due to illness. Finger lost his next match 4-6, 6-3, (11-9) to a Charlotte player in the semifinals.

 —In the Boy’s 12 Singles Blue: Brandon Mercado won 6-1, 6-0 over a player from Chapel Hill, N.C., and then lost 6-3, 6-0 to the No. 1 seed from Mount Pleasant. In the consolation, Mercado lost 6-4, 6-2 to a player from Johnson City, Tenn. In the Boy’s 12 Singles Green: Braedon Tomovski lost his first match 6-2, 6-2 to a Daniel Island player. In the consolation, Tomovski won 6-1, 6-4 over a Mount Pleasant player and then lost 6-7(6), 6-3, (10-4) to a player from Winston-Salem, N.C.    

— Boy’s 14 Singles Red: John Cahill won 6-1, 3-6, (1-0) in the first round over a player from Mount Pleasant and then lost 6-3, 6-0 to the No. 1 seed from Simpsonville. In the consolation, Cahill lost 6-4, 6-2 to the No. 2 seed from Raleigh. Ryan Burch lost in the first round 6-1, 6-0 to the No. 3 seed from Greer. In the consolation, Burch lost 6-2, 6-0 to a player from Hilton Head.    

— Boy’s 16 Singles Blue: Noah Johnson lost in the first round 6-0, 6-0 to the No. 2 seed from Winston-Salem. In the consolation, Johnson lost 7-5, 6-3 to a player from Rock Hill.  

— Boy’s 18 Singles Red: No. 1 seed Jeffrey Dayton won his first round 6-1, 6-0 over a player from Greensboro, N.C., and then won 7-5, 6-3 over a player from Hilton Head. Next, he won 6-2, 7-6 (2) over a player from Waxhaw, N.C., to advance to the finals where he lost 6-0, 6-2 to the No. 2 seed from Hilton Head. Britton Bellamy lost in the first round 6-3, 7-5 to the No. 2 seed from Hilton Head. In the consolation, Bellamy lost 7-6, 6-2 to a player from Raleigh.

— Girl’s 10 Singles Blue: No. 4 seed Olivia Bull lost her first match 4-1, 1-4, (1-0) to a Bluffton player. In the consolation, Bull won 4-0, 4-0 over a Charleston player and then won 4-1, 3-2 when her Charlotte opponent retired due to illness. Bull was to play in the finals when the tournament was stopped due to time constraints. Stephanie Davis won her first round 4-1, 4-2 over a Charleston player and then lost 4-1, 4-0 to the No. 3 seed from Cary, N.C. In the consolation, Davis lost 2-4, 4-1, (1-0) to a Charleston player.

— In the Girl’s 10 Singles Red: Laurel Case won her first round 4-1, 5-4 over a Camden player and then lost 4-2, 4-1 to the No. 2 seed from Jefferson, Ga. In the consolation, Case won 4-0, 4-0 over a player from Apex, N.C., and then lost 4-1, 4-1 to the No. 4 seed from Cary, N.C. Elizabeth Raynor won her first round 1-4, 4-2, (1-0) to a player from Apex, N.C., and then lost 6-0, 6-0 to the No. 1 seed from Saint Francisville, La. In the consolation, Raynor lost 4-0, 4-1 to a Camden player. Anna Roof won her first round 1-4, 4-1, (1-0) to a player from Mount Pleasant and then lost 4-0, 5-3 to the No. 3 seed from Anderson. In the consolation, Roof lost 4-1, 4-1 to a player from Apex.   

— Girl’s 12 Singles Green: Cassidy Cocca won 6-3, 3-6, (10-6) over a player from Mount Pleasant and then lost 6-4, 6-0 to the No. 2 seed from Mount Pleasant. In the consolation, Cocca won 6-3, 6-0 over a player from the Isle of Palms and then lost 6-1, 6-3 to a Charleston player. Mia Cabildo won 7-5, 4-6, (10-8) over a player from the Isle of Palms and then lost 6-0, 6-1 to the No. 1 seed from Charleston. In the consolation, Cabildo lost 6-0, 7-5 to Brooke Rogers. In the first round, Brooke Rogers lost 6-3, 6-3 to the No. 2 seed from Mount Pleasant. In the consolation, Rogers won 6-1, 6-4 over a Mount Pleasant player and then defeated Cabildo only to lose 6-1, 6-1 to the No. 4 seed from Waxhaw. Elena Hartley lost 6-2, 6-3 in the first round to a Charleston player. In the consolation, Hartley lost 6-4, 7-5 to the No. 4 seed from Waxhaw. Caroline Brothers lost 6-3, 6-4 in the first round to the No. 1 seed from Charleston. In the consolation, Brothers lost 4-6, 6-3, (10-6) to a player from the Isle of Palms.

— Girl’s 16 Singles Red: Tatiana Harrelson lost in the first round 6-2, 6-2 to a player from Hilton Head. In the consolation, Harrelson lost 6-4, 4-6, (1-0) to a player from Chapel Hill.  

Columbia Challenger

The Wildewood Junior Challenger was completed Feb. 12-14 at the Wildewood and Woodcreek Country Club in Columbia. This Level 4 sanctioned event had 97 players including two local juniors.

Their results were:   

— Ryleigh-Caroline Williams won her first round 6-0, 6-4 over a Columbia player and then lost 6-2, 6-3 to the No. 4 seed from Columbia in the Girl’s 12 Singles. In the consolation, Williams lost 3-6, 6-1, (10-7) to a player from Chapin.

— Delanie Williams lost her first match 6-1, 6-0 to a player from Columbia in the Girl’s 12 Singles. In the consolation, Williams lost 6-1, 6-1 to the No. 1 seed from Columbia.

Prestwick news 

Prestwick’s Playmakers Academy has grown to 25 juniors. Players may visit its website or call to see what this exciting new tennis clinic has to offer.

Upcoming local tournaments

• MBTC Challenger — The City of Myrtle Beach Junior Challenger will be held March 4-6 at the City of Myrtle Beach Tennis Center. This Level 4 sanctioned event offers singles and doubles for all juniors up to 18 years old. Entry fee is $38.13 for first event and $8 for second event for juniors 12 to 18 years old and $8 for additional event. Boys and girls 10 and under are $28 for first event and $8 for second event. Deadline is Feb. 29.

 • Litchfield’s McKissick — The A. Foster McKissick Tennis Tournament will be held March 10-13 at the Litchfield Racquet Club in Pawleys Island. This Level 2 sanctioned tournament will offer singles, doubles and mixed events. Entry fee is $43.50 for first event and $18 for additional events. Deadline is March 3.

• Stables Park Classic — The Mercom Junior Classic at Stables Park will be held March 18-20 at the WRTC at Stables Park in Pawleys Island. This Level 3 sanctioned tournament offers singles and doubles for all juniors up to 18 years old. Entry fee is $43.50 for one event and $46 for two events. Deadline is March 13.
