The X-1R Pro Cup series will be in Myrtle Beach this weekend, and fans can attend one of the Speedway’s biggest events of the year for free.
Chris Ragle, the director of operations for the X-1R Pro Cup Series has been traveling across the area during the past several days spreading the word about the Dean Custom Air 250 and passing out 20,000 free tickets to the race.
Formerly known as the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series, the X-1R Pro Cup Series is a true stock car touring series dedicated to providing a place for up-and-coming drivers to hone their talents, and for veteran drivers to continue to perfect their driving skills and techniques.
“It’s a series that developed a lot of NASCAR stars like Joey Logano and Trevor Bane,” Ragle said. “We want to have a big crowd and bring excitement back to the track. It’s short track, and it’s action filled.”
In addition to Bayne and Logano, NASCAR drivers Regan Smith, Brian Vickers, Danny O’Quinn Jr., Shane Huffman, Clay Rogers, Scott Wimmer, Benny Gordon and others including Mark McFarland, who drove for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the NASCAR Busch Series, raced and won in the Pro Cup series before moving on to NASCAR.
Although veterans still make up a large portion of the fields each week, many younger drivers including rookies such as Eric Gerchak, Reid Wilson and Brady Boswell use the X1R Pro Cup Series as a steppingstone to the larger touring series. In recent years, the Pro Cup Series has seen many of the current stars in NASCAR work their way up by racing in the Pro Cup Series.
Ragle said spectators and fans who enjoyed the Hooters Pro Cup Series, will also like the Dean Custom Air 250 and the X-1R Pro Cup Series.
Gates at the Myrtle Beach Speedway will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The racing begins at 6:45 p.m.
