Affordable competition for amateurs and rising professionals is back in 2016, fresh with a full schedule and a sponsor.

Srixon/Cleveland Golf has signed on as a title sponsor of the Coastal Players Tour, which will now be known as the Srixon Coastal Players Tour, according to the tour’s website.

The developmental tour that competes at various Grand Strand golf courses and select regional sites is also expanding further into North Carolina.

According to the 2016 schedule released last week, competitions have been added in Raleigh, Pinehurst and Rocky Mount. There are four “majors,” and most events are two-day tournaments.

The season opener is April 16-17 at Arcadian Shores Golf Club in the Restaurant Row section of Myrtle Beach.

Another new addition this year is a tour membership. Memberships are $50 a year and entitle members to discounted tournament entry fees, entry into a season-long points race for the tour championship, a 20 percent discount of wholesale pricing on all Srixon and Cleveland golf equipment, discounted practice round fees and other discounts at local businesses.

As for the points race, the top 25 professionals and top 12 amateurs in both the championship and players divisions will qualify for the tour championship. It will be held Oct. 29-30 at a location to be determined.

At least nine events have been scheduled along the Grand Strand, though six are in Brunswick County (N.C.). One event will be contested in Carolina Forest.

“Amen Corner” at World Tour Golf Links will be contested Aug. 6-7, and the competition has been designated as the third major of the season.

More tournaments are likely to be announced in coming weeks. There are five open dates on the schedule where the venue is listed as “to be determined.”

The Srixon Coastal Players Tour began in 2012 as a developmental tour designed to provide affordable competition. One-day events are $100 for non-members and $80 for members.

Golfers looking to register for Myrtle Beach area events are asked to text William at 843-957-1732.
