Carolina Forest golfer Jamie Karl hits an approach in this file photo from last season. She finished as the low scorer for the Lady Panthers in the Lower State tournament on Monday, shooting an 84.

Judging by scores turned in during its opening match, it’s shaping up to be another great year for the Carolina Forest varsity girls’ golf team.

The Lady Panthers picked up decisive wins last week, handily defeating St. James by 40 strokes in the season opener Sept. 8. Carolina Forest defeated St. James 162-202.

Senior Jamie Karl led the Lady Panthers with an even par 36 on the Myrtle Beach National-Southcreek course. Sami Spencer wasn’t far behind with a 2-over par 38. Jackie Brown (43) and Sydney Abruzzino (45) rounded out the scoring for Carolina Forest.

St. James was led by Kelli Smith 38, Kelli Jones 52, Hannah Reagan 58, and Alanna Hoovler 54.

Carolina Forest faces Socastee in a region match Thursday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Panthers are also scheduled to compete in the two-day Lady Patriot Invitational Sept. 20-21 at Wescott Plantation in Summerville.
