Like it did after last year’s state championship games, Horry County now boasts two of the No. 1 teams in the state.

Green Sea Floyds, which was No. 2 in the state media poll for each of the first two releases, moved up to No. 1 following another blowout victory and a loss by prior top squad Lamar. The Trojans earned nine of the 11 possible first-place votes this week.

Coach Donnie Kiefer’s squad joins Myrtle Beach, which has been the unanimous No. 1 team in Class 4A all three weeks of this year’s rankings. The Seahawks earned a lopsided victory at Hanahan last week to start the season.

Other area notables:

North Myrtle Beach moved up one spot to No. 4 in Class 4A following its 28-0 win over Loris (along with a loss by previous Top 4 team Greer).

Carolina Forest (Class 5A) and Aynor (Class 3A) are each on the cusp of making the Top 10. Currently, both teams in the receiving votes category, sitting in the first team out spot.
