Carolina Forest’s PJ Robinson shoots in a 59-53 loss to St. James Friday.

A big win for the St. James boys basketball team could prove to be an even bigger loss for Carolina Forest.

The Sharks scored a 59-53 victory over the visiting Region 6-5A rival Panthers, who saw two-sport standout Mason Garcia exit the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.

St. James scored 23 points in the fourth period to earn its first region victory behind Deondray Stanfield’s 17 points. Austin Werba had 11 points and Candido Ortiz-Robles III had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Carolina Forest was led by PJ Robinson with 12 points. Alex Greene and Garcia finished with 11 apiece.

The Panthers (8-12, 0-5 region) were scheduled to play South Florence Tuesday after press deadlines.

They face Socastee on the road Friday night.
