The Conway Dixie Minors (9-10) All-Stars posted a 3-2 victory over Georgetown in the opener of a best-of-three series for the district crown Tuesday night.
The teams were scheduled to play again last night in Georgetown with Conway needing only one victory to advance to the state tournament in Union.
Tuesday night’s game was nip-and-tuck with all the runs being scored in the first inning.
Bryson Harper started the game and pitched the first three innings for Conway, and Dillon Pruett went the final three innings.
The defensive star of the game was Malakki Trantham, who made several outstanding catches in the outfield.
“Malakki made four outstanding catches in the outfield that totally changed the game,” said Coach Colby Hucks. “If he had missed one of them we would have lost, much less four. He was outstanding.
Conway won a subdistrict tournament this past week to advance to district play.
Members of the team are Malakki Trantham, Ian Carroll, Bryson Harper, Mark Haubrich, Chase Holmes, Hunter Hucks, Jay Hyman, Jake McCracken, William Neff, Dillon Pruett, Walker Richardson and Luke Watts. The manager is Colby Hucks and the coaches are Joe Neff and Dale Watts.
The Conway Dixie Youth Majors (11-12) finished second in the district tournament in Green Sea Floyds, and will compete in the state tournament beginning July 15 in Union.
Members of the team are Koby Avant, Lance Cooper, Josiah Crawford, Nolan Crawford, Griffin Bryant, Austin Eckersley, Miles Feldner, Fritzy Jackson, Benjamin Lewis, Luke Skipper and Robert Todd. The manager is Tony King and the coaches are Bryan Lewis and Robert Todd.
Also, the Conway Dixie Boys (13-14) All-Stars competed in the district tournament in Andrews.
Members of the team were Jon Allen, Chandler Brown, Kaleb Burton, Briggs Causey, Christian Cox, Nicholas Cox, Dylan Davis, Christian Delosantos, Manning Feldner, Mackenley Hucks, Logan Pruett, Jakell Pyatt-Jackson and Josh Rowell. The manager was Jon Allen and the coaches were Russell Brown and Ray Cox.
The all-stars were selected following the completion of the regular season.
Low Country Pest Control won the Dixie Minors League championship. Members of the team were Ethan Collins, Levi Cribb, Rogerick Fields, Brody Gore, Bryson Harper, Hunter Hucks, Logan Isenhower, Joseph Kirton, Jared Newton, Dillon Pruett, Walker Richardson, Corbin Sellers and Ryan Taylor. The coach was Colby Hucks.
Conway National Bank won the Dixie Youth (11-12) League crown. Members of the team were Austin Collins, Josiah Crawford, Nolan Crawford, Griffin Davis, Evan Holt, Cody Isenhower, Fritzy Jackson, Justin Jordan, Daunte Morin, Jon Skipper, Jordan Smith, Lance Stephens and Alex Williamson. The coach was Tony King.
Members of the Dixie Boys (13-14) regular season championship team were Jon Allen, Peyton Barnhill, Nicholas Cox, Brentley DeLamar, Christian Delosantos, Josh Johnson Jamie Johnson, Justin Lewis, Kyle Newby, Drake Owens, Logan Pruett, Joshua Rowell and Christian Wood. The coach was Jon Allen.
