South Carolina swimming held its annual long course championship meet last weekend at the Carolina Natatorium on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
This year, 662 swimmers from 24 swim clubs participated in the state championship meet. Swimmers were restricted to competing in eight individual events over the four-day meet, even if they had qualified to swim in more races. Coastal Aquatic Club had 29 swimmers in the water for the weekend.
The format for the meet varied based upon a swimmer’s age. Swimmers ages 10 and under used the timed-finals format during the afternoon session. Swimmers posted a single time per event and those times were used to determine the top finishers.
Older swimmers (ages 11 and up) had a preliminary qualifying session in the morning and a finals session in the evening including the top 10 qualifiers from the morning session. A consolation final (qualifiers 11-20) was also held for senior swimmers (age 15 and older).By the end of the event, eight Coastal Aquatic swimmers combined to earn nine Top 5 and 20 Top 10 finishes:
