We wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. May we remember and honor beloved family members, friends and all who died while serving in the United States military.

Monday, May 27 at 8:45 a.m. is the first day of Plantation Lakes’ extremely popular water aerobics classes this summer.

Classes will be every Monday – Friday at this time. These free, weather-permitting fun classes are for Plantation Lakes residents only. Guests must be accompanied by their resident host. Registration is unnecessary. Bring noodles and water weights.

Saturday, June 1, Plantation Lakes’ annual bass fishing tournament is from 6:30 - 11 a.m. Entry forms were due May 18. Late entry costs $35 until May 31, and $50 on June 1.

Fish must be alive at weigh-in. Bring a non-perishable food or hygiene product donation for Help4Kids Backpack Buddies. Contact Russ Scales at 843-254-4648.

Plantation Lakes’ annual pool party for residents only is coming soon.

Debbie Bonner is chairing this social committee-hosted event. Gino’s will cater the food and DJ Buff will entertain. Corn hole, pool volleyball/basketball, hula hoops and ping pong will be available.

The pre-paid fee was due by May 22. Bring your own towels and beverages, remembering glass is not permitted. Extra chairs are welcome.

The board of directors needs two volunteers to help the ad hoc light pole committee. Bob Sweet chairs this committee, which researches ways to reduce the cost of community street lights.

Tuesday, May 28, the covenants committee meets at 7 p.m.

Thursday, May 30, the finance committee meets at 7 p.m.

Monday, June 3. the landscape committee meets at 7 p.m.

June 6 and 20, the Architectural Review Board meets at 9 a.m.

Thursday, June 6, the board of directors meets at 6:30 p.m. Residents are encouraged to ask questions between 6:30-7 p.m.

Friday night June 7, Courtney Bergman is planning a family fun night with food trucks, music and/or a movie to begin the summer.

Thursday, June 13, the card-creating/scrapbooking club, chaired by Diane Colarik, meets from 1-4 p.m.

Tuesday, June 18, the social committee meets at 7 p.m. Plantation Lakes ladies ages 18 and older are encouraged to join and help plan exciting community events.

Wednesday, May 15, Carolina Forest Civic Association’s meeting speakers Horry County Director of Planning and Zoning David Schwerd, and Ride III manager Jason Thompson addressed a packed room.

They gave an update on the Ride III programs affecting Carolina Forest.

Two years of construction widening Carolina Forest Boulevard begin in June. There will be lane closures and intersection restrictions 7 p.m.-7 a.m. Daytime construction will not have this interference.

County testing determined Plantation Lakes’ entrance received an inadequate volume of traffic to warrant a traffic light. They suggested opening Juxa Drive into Revolutionary War Way for residents desiring safety of a traffic light exit.

Saturday, May 25, the Military Appreciation Days Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. on Farrow Parkway in The Market Common. The free family picnic with military exhibits and live music follows from noon - 2 p.m. at Valor Memorial Garden.

Monday, May 27, the Memorial Day Veterans March begins at 9 a.m. on Ocean Boulevard from 16th Avenue North to 9th Avenue North.

Monday, May 27, the Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony begins at 11 a.m. on Myrtle Beach Convention Center’s outdoor plaza. An honor guard salute and speakers will preside at 2101 North Oak St.

Monday, May 27 at 1 p.m. is a Memorial Day tribute film at Grand 14 Cinemas at The Market Common.

Horry County libraries will offer the Summer Quest reading program, A Universe of Stories.
