Summer is in full swing, and my garden is producing all kinds of vegetables and fruit. When we got home from California, we had piles of radishes, cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes, cantaloupes, musk melons, green beans and yellow squash. I made some pickles and gave lots away to the neighbors. We call it the community garden.

Thank you to all my neighbors who kept an eye on our home while we were out of town. We really appreciate it.

The social committee is busy planning the National Night Out block party for Aug. 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the pool. We are asking all who attend to bring a side dish to share.

The board will provide hot dogs, chips, water and juice. Adults can BYOB in plastic containers.

Please email me what you are bringing or answer on Facebook, and that will give us some idea of what we have coming for dinner.

It can be a hot or cold item. We will have power for crock pots, and ice to keep everything else cold.

We hope to have music, a cornhole tournament, and lots of first responder equipment for the children to see, and the pool will be open. Hope everyone will join the party and get to know their neighbors.

We will have another new neighbor on Quincy Hall Court, as a house just sold on that street.

We had fireworks in Covington Lake on July 4. It is against our covenants for fireworks to be used in our neighborhood. Just to let people know, it is a safety issue.

If you want to see fireworks, go to one of the many public shows.

The work has begun on Carolina Forest Boulevard. It looks like they are working on the walkway first, but maybe they are just clearing the land for the widening.

There are lots of new stores opening in the area. Both ends of Carolina Forest Boulevard have construction going on with new stores, medical buildings and even tiny houses.

The Friends of Carolina Forest Library’s bag of books sale is July 17 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. They are packed with books so there should be plenty of good deals.

The Nook’s July special is to buy one book, get one book free on all adult books. They have gotten lots of donations this past month.

The library is having a virtual reality experience on July 15 for children 11 years or older between 2 and 4 p.m. No sign-up is required.

The Carolina Forest Library will sponsor a blood drive on July 24 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

You can register at the library or online at redcrossblood.org.

Summer time is a hard time for blood donations with people on vacation, so they can use your help. It only takes about ½ hour to donate. If you register online, you can do all the paperwork ahead of time.

This weekend is the Beautify Carolina Forest litter pick-up. Be extra careful if you are picking in the construction area.

Our son and daughter both live in California, so we have been watching the earthquakes with great concern.

They both have felt all of them, but not in the epicenter, so they tell me it feels like a big wave.

Another reason I don’t want to live in California, but I do miss the perfect weather of 70-80 degrees with no humidity.

Happy birthday to Jimmy McCullion July 15 and Clarence “Clinky” Forbes and Chuck Johns July 18.

Look forward to hearing the news of the neighborhood.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and the new pool.
