It is Sunday evening and I just realized that I hadn’t written my column yet. Busy, busy week with the bag of books sale at the library, meetings for Fun Day and getting ready to go to California to see my granddaughters. They are now 10 months old and crawling, standing and becoming quite the little girls. I can’t wait to see them.
The board is starting to look at projects for the coming year. If you see something that isn’t working, such as the fountains, let Janine know at Premier Management as she will contact the right person.
One project is to clean up the area between Clandon and Ellsworth where all the red rock is. This will be replaced with sod.
With the work to be done at the front of Covington Lake, the landscaping on the front of the property will probably wait until the bike path is completed.
The board is still not sure what other trees we will lose with the construction, but they do know that they will lose part of the median.
The board has renewed the contract with Aggi’s to continue to do the landscaping in Covington Lake.
They will continue to monitor the use of the pool for the month of September, and decide at their October meeting when the pool will close for the season.
The Covington Lake community yard sale is Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. – noon. Signs will go up the week before on Carolina Forest Boulevard.
The bag sale at Carolina Forest Library was very successful. Next one will be in November. We do have a large number of children’s and junior fiction books for sale for your child’s library at 25 and 50 cents each, so stop by and check them out.
Sale this month is “buy one book, get one book free” for all adult books.
The Friends of Carolina Forest Library have decided to change their meeting to the first Monday of the month at 10 a.m. We hope that more people will join us at this time of the day.
Next meeting is Oct. 7 at 10 a.m.
After that meeting, we will organize for the Family Fun Day on Oct. 12. It is on the field between the library and rec center and will run from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. We will have all kinds of moon walk inflatables, games, a petting zoo, pumpkins to decorate and a climbing wall.
Cost is $5 per child and children will win tickets at each inflatable/game to use for prizes.
We will also have lunch food and Italian ices for sale.
It should be a fun day for all. If it rains, it will be moved inside the gym of the rec building.
If you are interested in helping with the fair for a few hours, let Marilyn Keyser know at firstname.lastname@example.org. Students can earn community service hours if needed.
Thank you to all the volunteers who help with the litter pickup each month. Even with all the construction, we are able to keep the trash under control.
Thank you to the Carolina Forest Rotary for helping this past weekend.
If you would like to help, go to beautifycarolinaforest.org and volunteer. We will be doing some mulching the first week in October, and any extra hands will be appreciated.
The county has cut a walking path out behind the library. This past weekend, it was used for a cross country high school meet and at the end of October, it will be used for a Halloween 5k. As I get more information on this, I will pass it on to you.
No birthdays or anniversaries this coming week. If you would like me to publish your special dates, email them to me and I will add them to my list.
Look forward to hearing the news and events of the neighborhood.
