Brenda Tuel (New)

On March 26, 2009, our Berkshire residents held the first Berkshire Babes card party fundraiser at the Golden Corral. That is the day we wore our official Babes shirts and officially became a group called Babes.

In April 2009, I officially became the coordinator of the group and the official photographer. Over the years, I have taken photos of our Babes and put them in photo books and journaled each photo. Now I have over 2,000 pictures of us in four photo books. I set up a Facebook page for all of us to stay connected and to find out about our luncheons.

On April 10, 2014, we celebrated our fifth anniversary on the Barefoot Princess Riverboat.

That was so much fun, we had to do it again.

The Babes all live here in Berkshire. We go to lunch every month at various restaurants in Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area, and we celebrate birthdays at our luncheons.

When a new Babe comes to our luncheons, we introduce her and make her feel welcome.

We do a lot of other things too. We play cards, play golf, do yoga, have a book club, exercise etc.

Many of the Babes have formed great friendships.

As a group over the years, we have gone to two museums, been on three boat trips, and gone to over 50 different restaurants.

On May 2, 2019, at the Berkshire Forest amenity center, the Babes celebrated their 10th anniversary. We celebrated in style, wearing our Hawaiian fashions.

It was a beautiful day. We had 49 Babes attending our celebration. We started on the patio enjoying appetizers and drinks, and played our famous Babes scavenger hunt.

A slideshow of all the pictures taken of our Babes over the last 10 years were shown while everyone was eating.

And of course, we celebrated our April, May and June birthdays.

We topped off our celebration by singing “We are Family.”

Like any big celebration, it would have not been possible without all our volunteers. I thank Debbie Brewer, Pat Caffarello, Marilyn Keyser, Donna and Stan Bandura, Linda Caldwell, Suzanne Sharp, Annie Gladis, Grace Alquiza, Brenda and Bob Tuel and Christine Hanna.

As the Babes luncheon coordinator for the last 10 years, I can truly say I have been honored to bring the Babes together and to make our times together for all those years, memorable.

I have always made it my mission to make the Babes feel welcomed in our community.

Thank you to all the Babes for your gifts and friendship these past 10 years.

Community groups like the Babes makes our community connection feel like family. We do have a great community here in Berkshire.

Many events are planned for our community. Check out our website at www.berkshireforest.org to get the calendar of all the events and activities planned for our community.

Community-wide yard sale is planned for Saturday, May 18 from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

I wish all the mothers in our community a Happy Mother’s Day.

As always, if you have any event or activity that you want to share with the community, email me at berkshireforestcommunity @gmail.com.
