Anna and Ernie Sadera

Berkshire Forest residents Anna and Ernie Sadera recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Today is a special day for Anna and Ernie Sadera who celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

The Saderas retired here from Maryland. They followed many of their friends here. Both are very involved in the community and both enjoy playing golf. Anna is a member of the Berkshire Birdies Golf League.

They refer to themselves as high school sweethearts, and they started dating when Anna was in eighth grade and Ernie was a senior.

They met in their neighborhood. They have two children and five grandchildren. They are planning to celebrate their 50th anniversary with friends and family in Maryland, and have a family get-together in Ocean City, Md. Congratulations to a wonderful couple.

Calling all residents: The Carolina Forest Chronicle and Carolina Forest Civic Association are co-sponsoring an important summit that will be held at 6 p.m. July 15 in lieu of the regular Carolina Forest Civic Association meeting, at the Carolina Forest Recreation Center. Eddie Dyer, chairman of the RIDE III committee, and Bo Ives, our Carolina Forest representative from RIDE III, will be speakers.

It is your chance to be a voice for the Carolina Forest community. The intent is for it to be a one-stop shop on RIDE III, with emphasis on Carolina Forest projects. It’s an opportunity to push for Carolina Forest and to lobby as one voice for greater priority and consideration.

I am personally asking you to please get involved and make our Carolina Forest community count.

Don’t forget to sign up for the Fourth of July party by June 29. Register with our life style director by email at berkshirerc@KADiehl.com or call 843-236-7287. It will be from noon-4 p.m. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served. The cost for adults is $3, kids are $1 and guests are $5. There will be a water slide and music.

Save the date: On Oct. 17, The Berkshire Birdies will be sponsoring their 5th Rally for the Cure Golf Tournament at River Oaks Golf Plantation. Hope you start forming your teams.

More information to follow about this event.

As most of you know, our pool was closed for several days because someone threw glass in our pool. Glass is not permitted at all in the pool area.

I hope they catch whoever did this and make sure that this person or persons are prosecuted to the fullest extent. All of us are the eyes and ears of our community. As always, please report any suspicious activity to the police.

We were all saddened about the tragic event in Charleston last week. Our heartfelt prayers go out to all those families affected by this barbaric crime.

As a community, I encourage you to find the time to help a neighbor or volunteer. It makes a difference and the rewards are great. This community knows how to give and help one another. I have personally seen your actions.
