MYRTLE BEACH—A celebration of life service with military honors for MSGT Phillip J. Lewis was held Aug. 16 in Lewis Crematory and Funeral Home Chapel in Myrtle Beach.

The Rev. Kirk Lawton officiated.

Lewis passed away July 31 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Lewis was born Feb.6, 1946, in Houston, Texas, to Jacob and Princella Lewis, whom they named “Phillip Joe.” He was one of six children.

He grew up and attended school in Houston, joined the United States Air Force and served 25 years and retired a master sergeant. 

Lewis enjoyed playing golf and watching football, and  spending time watching his granddaughters Phoenix Jin Lewis and Cheyenne Mia Lewis, as well as listening to music and being around his family.   

He is survived by children Gwendolyn Renee Hogan, Phillip Joe Lewis II, Phalen Jovaughn Lewis, Phyllis Johvanna Lewis, Prince Jai Lewis, and Prentiss Johan Lewis; six granddaughters; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; 11 nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.  

Lewis is entrusted to the care of Lewis Crematory and Funeral Services, Myrtle Beach.
