Carl Aloysius Blake, 77, passed away Aug. 9.

He was born July 30, 1942, in Cumberland, Maryland. A 1960 graduate of La Salle High School, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Blake and Mary Emma (Cessna) Blake.

Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and his family was very important to him. He was known for his smile, his ability to spin a yarn and his unrequited love for the game of golf.

His family came first, followed closely by his involvement in the community.

His proudest achievement was the revitalization of the South Strand Chapter of the Lions Club. He was also very active in his local Oceanside Village community and led a longstanding large weekly golf group of men from the entire community.

He was a veteran of both the Marine Corps and the Naval Reserves and proudly served in Operation Desert Shield.

He also was a member of the Cumberland Knights of Columbus Council 586 and the Order of the Alhambra in Cumberland.

A long-time employee of Queen City Electric and, more recently, Consolidated Electric, he spent more than 40 years as an electrician and an electrical estimator and was a proud 50-year member of the IBEW Local 307.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Anne Blake; children Patrick Blake and wife Krissy, Michael Blake and Erin Clay and husband David; grandchildren Christian Blake and wife Juliette, Caroline Blake, Andrew Blake, David Clay and Adam Clay; great-granddaughter Flora Blake; brother William Blake and wife Jean; sister Elizabeth Dow and husband Roger and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 13 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lions Club, PO Box 15946, Surfside Beach, SC 29578. or the Hollings Cancer Institute at MUSC.

Goldfinch Funeral Home Beach Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
