A 51-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday night in the Loris area, authorities said.

The deceased was identified as Joseph Gaskins from Green Sea, Horry County Deputy Coroner Patty Bellamy said in a news release.

The collision happened at 10:21 p.m. on Cox Road near the West Dogwood Road intersection, Lance Cpl. Matt Southern with the S.C. Highway Patrol said.

A Ford Mustang was heading west on Cox Road when its driver, Gaskins, disregarded a stop sign.

The vehicle ran off the road and struck a street sign and drain culvert. Gaskins was trapped as a result of the wreck and sustained fatal injuries on scene.

The wreck remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
