A 26-year-old man has been charged in connection with a Conway area shooting that left one person dead, according to a news release from the Horry County Police Department.

Taylor Ryan Strode of Conway faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the incident that happened Wednesday afternoon.

Around 5:10 p.m., Charles Lawrence, 57, was shot several times at his home on Greenleaf Drive and died at the scene, said Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard in an email.

Due to the circumstances of the incident, Lawrence was not pronounced dead until 8:45 p.m.

On Wednesday, officers were called to Greenleaf Drive in the Conway area for reports of a shooting incident.

Patrol officers and SWAT and negotiations team members responded and Horry County Fire Rescue personnel units were also on scene.

Negotiators worked to establish communication with a subject located on the outside of a home.

Around 7:15 p.m., the situation was resolved and the subject, Strode, was taken into custody.

Strode was holding a gun when police arrived on the scene, according to an incident report.

No bond was set during a hearing Thursday afternoon. A magistrate said only a circuit court judge can set bond on the murder charge. A circuit court judge will also decide if bond is set on the weapon charge.
