Police arrested a 32-year-old man in relation to multiple car break-ins in Myrtle Beach's Market Common area, authorities said.
Benjamin Thomas Frasier of Surfside Beach faces charges of 12 counts of burglary auto, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of grand larceny, Cpl. Tom Vest with the Myrtle Beach Police Department said in a news release. More charges are possible.
Starting in late September, the MBPD received reports of thefts from vehicles in the Emmens Preserve neighborhood.
Investigators used videos submitted by community residents and stationary license plate readers to identify the person suspected to be involved.
On Wednesday, officers were alerted when the vehicle entered the area. Police were able to apprehend Frasier after a failed attempt to flee.
"It is also important to note that all of these burglaries and thefts were crimes of opportunity, which could have been avoided if the doors had been locked," the release said.
Officials urge community members to lock and secure their vehicles and homes, remove valuables and contact police if anything suspicious is seen.
