Authorities are investigating after possible human remains were found Friday morning in the North Strand, officials said.

The Horry County Police Department is actively investigating what are believed to be human remains found off of Robert Edge Parkway near North Myrtle Beach, said Horry County Police spokeswoman Kelly Moore.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge said the possible human remains were found in the Old Sanders Drive area and will be looked at by an anthropologist next week.

The coroner's office was notified about the discovery around 8:30 a.m.
