An individual was taken into emergency protective custody Tuesday afternoon after surrendering to authorities in the Conway area, according to Horry County Police Department spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov.
Police responded to a home located in the 1100 block of Pine Loop Road around 2 p.m. for a mental health-related call.
There was reason to believe a person at the home was at risk of self-harm. Patrol officers and specially-trained members of HCPD's SWAT team trained were called in to assist and the situation was resolved peacefully.
Around 4:20 p.m., the individual was taken into custody to receive medical help. No injuries were reported.
Area residents were asked to shelter in place as police handled the call. Neighbors said they heard a loud bang at one point while police were on scene.
In late April, police responded to the same home in reference to reports of a person with a gun. "HCPD responded to the location and located an individual who presented a threat," a news release said. "Shots were fired before one person was ultimately taken into custody." No one was hurt during the shooting. County authorities asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate that case, which is the typical practice for officer-involved shootings.
