UPDATE: Two people died and two others were injured due to a crash in Horry County Friday afternoon, authorities said.
Lance Cpl. Matt Southern with the S.C. Highway Patrol said the two-vehicle wreck happened at about 1:45 p.m.
A 2018 Kia was heading west on Mount Zion Road when its driver disregarded a stop sign. The Kia collided with a 2015 Ford van that was pulling a trailer and traveling south on S.C. Highway 57.
The driver of the Kia was taken to McLeod Seacoast Hospital and died from injuries sustained in the wreck.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Patty Bellamy identified him as 58-year-old Walter Hager. He was originally from New York state but had been living in the Myrtle Beach area for about four years.
Two other occupants of the Kia were taken to Grand Strand Medical Center. One of them, Hager’s 17-year-old daughter Amy, succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the van suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a local hospital.
Everyone was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
