The South Carolina Department of Transportation is shutting down the Johnny Causey Boat Landing in North Myrtle Beach due to falling concrete from the Highway 17 bridge overhead.

The boat landing is off Little River Neck Road, just below the Highway 17 bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway.

"DOT said they were going to close it," said city spokesman Pat Dowling. "This has happened before. Pieces of insulation or concrete started dropping from the bridge above it."

District Maintenance Engineer Ray George with SCDOT said the department is unsure of how long the boat landing will remain closed.

"We are currently preparing the specifications and drawings needed for the repairs," he said in an email. "At this time, I do not have an estimate for how long the boat landing may be closed, but we will have a better idea of the time needed to complete the repairs once we have a contractor in-place."
