A 63-year-old Myrtle Beach man has been charged following a boat collision on the Intracoastal Waterway Sunday night that sent four people to the hospital.

Ralph Gonyea has been charged with negligent operation based on his failure to maintain a proper lookout, according to a news release from the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.

SCDNR responded to the Intracoastal Waterway after a boat operated by Gonyea drove up and over another boat near Smith Boulevard in the Socastee area at about 8:15 p.m. The agency was able to recover the other boat from the Intracoastal Waterway after the vessel sunk.

Four people were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries and have since been released. Eight other individuals were treated on scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with any additional photos, videos or information is asked to contact the SCDNR Law Enforcement Division at 843-953-9307.
