Voting booth

Many Socastee voters will head to new precincts for Tuesday’s primary.

Horry County elections officials added two precincts in Socastee after new schools were built in that community, said Sandy Martin, director of the county’s elections and voter registration office.

Traditionally, voters in the Lake Park precinct have gone to Socastee High School to cast their ballots. But Martin said that precinct had swelled to more than 6,000 voters.

So elections officials divided the massive precinct into three smaller ones. Lake Park 1 is still at the high school (4900 Socastee Boulevard), Lake Park 2 is at the new Socastee Elementary School (4223 Socastee Boulevard) and Lake Park 3 is at the new Socastee Middle School (151 Esso Road).

“We had to split it once the new schools were available to use,” Martin said.

Martin said the only other precinct that will change Tuesday is Red Bluff. Those voters will cast their ballots with their peers in the Shell precinct at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 5201 S.C. 905.

Martin said the previous Red Bluff precinct site was damaged by a fire and wasn’t available.
