A pedestrian died after being struck by a pickup truck early Tuesday morning near Surfside Beach, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Horry County Coroner Robert Edge identified the deceased as 38-year-old Markus Herbert Rhinehardt.
Edge said Rhinehardt had a Loris address but had recently moved to the Holmestown Road area.
Trooper First Class Tyler Tidwell said the crash happened on Holmestown Road near the Blue Jay Drive intersection.
The collision occurred around 2:45 a.m., authorities said.
A pedestrian, who was later identified as Rhinehardt, was traveling south on Holmestown Road when he was struck by an eastbound 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck.
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck and a passenger were both wearing seat belts.
The wreck remains under investigation.
