Filing for November’s Surfside Beach general election ended last Friday; three candidates are in the running to be mayor and eight are vying for three seats on the town council.
None of the incumbents are seeking reelection, with Mayor Bob Childs and councilmen Randle Stevens, Mark Johnson and Ron Ott choosing not to file.
Town councilman David Pellegrino, former councilwoman Julie Samples and Bob Hellyer, who chairs the town planning commission, are running as mayoral candidates.
Additionally, Jenn Cribb, Paul Holder, Cindy Keating, Michael Drake, Kathryn Martin, Laverne Kreklau, Laurence McKeen and planning commission member Cody Sluder are each running for a spot on the town council.
Surfside Beach has a council, or weak mayor, form of government. Town council members are elected at-large, meaning they represent the entire town and not individual districts. They serve four-year terms.
The election is scheduled for Nov. 5. The deadline to register to vote in the election is Oct. 4.
