Two men were shot and killed during a robbery at a Forestbrook bingo hall late Friday night, authorities said.
Steve Johnson, 73, and his 46-year-old son Sparky were gunned down at their business, Waccamaw Bingo, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden. Both men were from Sumter.
The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. at the bingo hall in Belle Terre Plaza, which is just off U.S. 501.
Horry County Police spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov said investigators are still searching for the suspect.
Shortly after midnight, police told residents of the Tuscany subdivision behind Belle Terre Boulevard to shelter in place while officers and dog teams searched the area for the suspect.
Thelma Greggs said she was playing bingo when the shooting started.
"All of a sudden … people started running and saying, 'Gun, shooting,'" the Georgetown woman said. "I was tore up. I couldn't think."
She went to a nearby Food Lion and watched as police swarmed the area. Hours later, she stood near the crime scene tape as she waited to get her vehicle.
"It's sad," she said. "It's very sad."
The suspect is described as a black man who was wearing gray pants and a gray long-sleeve shirt. His face was covered during the incident, officials said.
No arrests had been made in the case as of 2 a.m. Saturday.
Police are asking people to avoid the area. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the HCPD at 843-248-1520.
