Two people died in a multi-vehicle wreck early Saturday morning in Horry County, authorities said.

The two people who died were identified as Tonda Cross, 61, from Ellettsville, Indiana, and 25-year-old Charles "Cody" Wade III from Horry County.

The crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. on S.C. 22 near the 16 mile marker, said Cpl. Sonny Collins of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Collins said a 2014 Jeep was going the wrong way at the time of the crash, traveling east in the westbound lane.

The Jeep, driven by Wade, struck a 2014 Dodge pickup truck head on.

The driver of the Jeep and a passenger in the Dodge pickup truck, Cross, were killed in the wreck. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a hospital.

All occupants were wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation. Collins said the Highway Patrol is trying to determine why the Jeep was heading in the wrong direction.

Country singer Travis Tritt’s tour bus was sideswiped in the wreck, according to tweets from Tritt and Horry County Fire Rescue.

“We sustained minor damage as we tried to avoid the crash site in front of us,” Tritt tweeted. “Bus damage can be fixed, but lives cannot be replaced. I’m so incredibly sad for those who lost their lives tonight.”
