A man wanted by police in an attempted murder case was found dead in a Myrtle Beach motel room Thursday, authorities said.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Patty Bellamy identified the deceased as 45-year-old William C. Brown of Belton.

Officers with the Myrtle Beach Police Department "received information about the location of a person wanted for attempted murder," said Cpl. Tom Vest with the MBPD in a news release.

A search warrant was obtained for a room at Lancer Motel, where SWAT and negotiations teams were called to assist officers.

Officers tried several times to contact the subject in the room and did not receive a response. When police made entry into the room the subject, Brown, was found dead, the release said.

The state Law Enforcement Division continues to investigate.
