A man told authorities he was robbed of $93 by a suspect who held a knife to his neck, according to a police report.
Police charged Harold Wayne Greer, 54, with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the case, online records show.
An officer responded to the area of 9th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach early Tuesday morning for a report of an armed robbery that happened on the 800 block of Broadway Street.
The victim said he had just been robbed at knife-point and gave the officer a description of the suspect. “Based off of this description, officers were able to come up with a possible suspect,” the reporting officer noted.
The victim said he and the suspect had been hanging out on the beach after he got off work, and that the suspect offered him a place to stay for the night so he agreed to go with him.
The man said the two went to a gas station and then went toward the Myrtle Beach Train Depot.
Once they arrived at the train depot, the victim said the suspect took him to the south end of the property and grabbed him by his shirt.
The victim said the suspect pulled a pocket knife out and held it to the victim’s neck before demanding money.
After the victim gave him money, the suspect allegedly said that if the victim told anyone, he would cut his throat, according to the report.
The victim then ran toward Ocean Boulevard and the suspect purportedly went toward U.S. 501.
The victim, who police said later identified the suspect in a photo lineup, said the money stolen from him had been in a plastic bag.
