A man wanted by police for several years after escaping a North Carolina prison was arrested Wednesday in Aynor, officials said.
A U.S. Marshals Service task force member with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office arrested Stanley Lee Rogers at a home on William Nobles Road, according to a news release.
The Sheriff's Office employee had received information from the U.S. Marshals task force office in Raleigh, North Carolina, which launched an investigation.
Rogers was sentenced to 40 years in prison in 1996 by a North Carolina judge on an armed robbery charge. Rogers escaped prison about three years into his sentence while working as an inmate mowing grass.
Law enforcement agents with the Sheriff’s Office and Myrtle Beach and Horry County police departments assisted in the arrest.
