A 34-year-old Loris man died in a crash Sunday night in Horry County, authorities said.

Anthony Melvin was pronounced dead on scene, Horry County Deputy Coroner Chris Dontell said in a news release.

Cpl. Judd Jones with the S.C. Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on U.S. 701 north of Loris.

A 2001 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Melvin heading south tried to pass a Ford that was also in the southbound lane.

When the motorcycle went into the northbound lane to pass the other vehicle it struck a Honda head-on.

The drivers of the Ford and Honda were both wearing seat belts and were not injured.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
