Authorities arrested the mother of a 5-year-old child found in Conway who police say was left with a landscaper.
Samantha Lynn Shaver has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person by a legal custodian in connection with the case, city of Conway spokeswoman Taylor Newell said.
Shaver also faces a charge of possessing, concealing, selling or disposing a vehicle valued at $5,000 or more in connection with an incident that happened at Vaught Eye Associates in Conway.
Bond was set at $20,000 on the neglect charge and $5,000 on the vehicle-related charge.
Police responded to a home on Kenneth Street Thursday afternoon and met with a person hired to do landscaping work on the property, according to a police report.
He said around 5 p.m. a man and a woman came to the home with a small child, and that the couple told him they were going somewhere they could not take the child to.
He said the couple who appeared to be homeless left the child there before leaving on foot.
On Thursday evening, the Conway Police Department asked for the public’s help in identifying the child who goes by CJ and any family members. On Friday morning, the agency said the mother had been identified and that police were continuing to investigate.
Newell said the child is in the care of the State Department of Social Services.
