Officers were at the scene of an attempted armed robbery in The Market Common area Friday, where the Myrtle Beach Police Department reports that a store employee shot a suspected robber.

Michael James Alexander Perez, 33 of Myrtle Beach, is in custody and currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the incident. Authorities have not said the charges Perez faces.

The incident happened at 981-B Hackler Street on Feb 17, 2023.

MBPD officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery around 4:45 p.m. Friday, where the subject had fled the scene after presenting a gun and subsequently getting shot by an employee. The subject was later located at a local hospital.

The investigation is still ongoing. MBPD said that formal charges will be brought against the suspect soon.
