bridge flag

One of the flags flown on Main Street Bridge this morning to remember 9/11.

American Legion Post 111, along with local civic groups, held American flags on the Main Street Bridge in downtown Conway to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorists attacks. Many motorists seemed moved by the event and were observed saluting, waving, giving them a thumbs up, and honking their horns in support. The event has been held annually since 2002 and has been cancelled once by heavy rain. Flag bearers remain in place on the bridge from the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center's North Tower at 8:46 a.m. until 10:03 a.m. when the last plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.
