Horry County Council and cities in Horry County have been at odds in recent weeks over whether or not municipalities should keep part of the hospitality tax that used to go to the county. A previous agreement between Horry County cities and Horry County that ended in 2017 gave the county half of the 3 percent accommodations tax and 2 percent hospitality fee funds collected in the cities. But for the past two years, the county has continued to collect half the funds. The county had pledged $25 million from these funds to help pay for I-73.
