At least two people were taken to the hospital Monday evening after a serious crash in Carolina Forest.
The accident occurred at about 8:09 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Carolina Forest Boulevard and River Oaks Drive. It involved a late model, dark colored Mercedes sedan and a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C. Highway Patrol said the Mercedes was traveling on River Oaks Drive and tried to turn left onto the boulevard when it was struck by the pickup truck.
The driver of the Mercedes was charged with failure to yield the right of way, Collins said.
The Silverado had moderate damage to its front bumper and came to rest in the middle of the Carolina Forest Boulevard and River Oaks Drive intersection.
The Mercedes came to rest in a nearby ditch. Emergency crews had to use chainsaws to free the victims, who were spine boarded onto a stretcher and taken to the hospital.
Both victims were taken by ambulance to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center between 8:40 and 8:50 p.m. Collins said their injuries were considered minor.
The accident forced temporary lane closures as emergency crews tended to the victims.
